After preparing the tooth, the dentist will make an impression of the tooth, either using digital scans or putty-like material (pressed onto the tooth to make an indent) and forward it to the dental lab. There, the impression will be used to create dental inlay, usually from tooth-colored ceramic or composite resin.

Dental onlays can be made from resin materials, porcelain, or gold. One major difference between them is the appearance of the finished restoration. Porcelain and ceramic onlays are more cosmetically pleasing than gold and can be stained to match the rest of the affected and surrounding teeth.
More info about acrylic inlays from our tech advisor Erick Coleman: I first noticed acrylic inlays on Gibson guitars in the late 90s and early 00s, as an alternative to celluloid. Now they appear on most models except for the high-end Customs.
Made from vintage correct cellulose nitrate material. Manufactured by Mazzucchelli, the original Italian factory that supplied Gibson in the 1950s. Retrospec inlays are 0.070 in thickness, with the pattern running all the way through to allow for sanding.
Fret markers are fretboard inlays that are functional as well as decorative; they mark off specific frets in order to visually indicate neck position to the performer. On guitars and basses, fret markers are usually found on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 15th, 17th, and 19th fret.
Yet despite the advantages of Poly, Gibson continue to only use Nitro as the finish on all their USA made electric guitars including the iconic Les Pauls, SGs and 335 / 339s.
The dots on a guitar fretboard are helpful indicators for musicians to know which notes they are playing on the fretboard. The dots follow the same pattern for the majority of guitars, so once youve learned to work with this pattern on one guitar, you will find them helpful on almost every guitar you pick up.
Yes. It helps the player know where he is at on the fretboard. The player typically use the position markers on the side of the neck - the ones on the surface of the fingerboard are more for other players accompanying the guitarist, so they can know what position he is playing in so they may follow easier.
There are two dots on the 12th fret on a guitar because thats the point where the notes start repeating from the open string. This is handy to know when you start learning scales because you can reuse the same scale shapes below and above the 12th fret.
