Guitar inlays do have an impact on guitar tone, but the tonal difference is negligible for human ears in most cases. The worst thing about inlays is changing them because the whole process can damage the wood.
Dip the tip only of the brush into the paint. Touch the tip of the brush to the guitar on the side of the neck where you want the dot. This will leave a perfect small circle of paint that looks just like a real fret marker without the muss and fuss of having a repairman drill and insert a marker.
Often, you can simply pop the new inlays right into the holes. If they're a little tight, use your drill bit to slightly enlarge the hole so the inlays will fit. Turn the drill bit by hand — the drill itself will take away too much too quickly and could damage your fretboard.
Double Dot This 12th fret marker divides your fretboard into two halves. If you have a 24 fret guitar, you also have a double. Once you get to the 12th fret, everything is an octave higher. If you were chords at the first fret and then move those to the 12th fret, they would sound an octave higher.

Guitar fret inlays are the markers along the neck of the guitar, usually circular dots, that serve as a visual aid so you can guide your hand to the notes you intend on playing.
Typical Fretboard Markers Locations On most electric guitars and acoustic guitars, you'll find dots or fret markers on the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth, fifteenth, seventeenth, nineteenth, and twenty-first positions on the guitar fretboard. On most guitars, there is no fretboard marker on the first fret.
