The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the two cruciate ligaments which stabilizes the knee joint by preventing excessive forward movements of the tibia or limiting rotational knee movements. ACL reconstruction surgery is performed using minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, in which a combination of fiber optics, small incisions and small instruments are used. A somewhat larger incision is needed, however, to obtain the tissue graft.

The ACL is a central ligament of the knee. The main functional role of the ACL is to provide stability against anterior tibial translation (ATT) and internal rotation.
Studies have shown that the ACL provided more than 80% of anterior restraining force from 30 to 90 of knee flexion, while other ligamentous structures such as the medial joint capsule, the iliotibial tract, and the medial and lateral collateral ligaments provided no relevant secondary restraint to this motion [12].
The BEAR Implant acts as a bridge to help the torn ends of the ACL heal together. The BEAR Implant is designed to hold and protect your blood in the gap between the ACL ends to allow the formation of clot, which is necessary for healing.
