Inlays are applied to the grooves (also known as pits and fissures) of the tooth, and they extend deep into the tooths roots. They usually last anywhere between five and 20 years. Although there is no assurance that they will last this long, it is possible to make them last.
Inlays are beneficial because they tend to strengthen teeth, are made of resin or porcelain to blend in with teeth, and are often more durable than traditional fillings. Gold or other metals can be used which are even stronger.
Unlike overlays and full reconstruction, inlays can be lane-specific. The difference between inlays and structural overlays is that inlays do not docHubly alter the roadway elevation. Inlays strategies include removal of existing travel lane(s) rather than building atop the existing lane(s).
A dental inlay is a pre-molded filling fitted into the grooves of your tooth. Its most often used as restoration for cavities (also known as dental caries) that are centered in your tooth instead of along the outer edges or cusps. These cavities have usually not progressed into more extensive tooth decay.
Inlay - The old road surface is planed off and replaced with a suitable material. This can also involve removing and replacing lower levels of the road. Overlay - Consists of adding material to the existing road to improve the profile and add strength.
The inlay/onlay requires a minimum of 1.5 mm occlusal space and all cuspidian angles must be rounded and the margins must have a shoulder shape with a rounded internal angle or a wide chamfer. The preparations should have a minimum ceramic thickness of approximately 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm.
If we compare Inlays and Onlays vs. Crowns, the basic difference is the area they cover on the tooth. Inlays and onlays cover a part of a tooth while crowns cover the whole tooth above the gum line. As you can understand, crowns are used for more severe cavities or decays compared to inlays and onlays.
Treatment cost generally ranges from $650 to $1,200 per tooth, with an average price of $900. Most insurance plans cover some or all of the costs associated with inlay and onlay procedures since these treatments are designed to restore damaged teeth to health.
