On the Review Ribbon, in the Compare Group, click on the Compare icon and choose Combine. In the resulting dialog box, choose your original document on left side and the revised document on the right side (click on the Folder icon to browse through your files). Click OK to exit the dialog box.
Insert a comment On the Review tab, click New Comment. Type your comment. Word shows your comment in a balloon in the documents margin.
No matter where you are in the document, you can quickly jump to and read the next or previous comment thread. To move to the next comment thread from your current location, press Alt+R, N. To move to the previous comment thread, press Alt+R, V.
Linking refers to inserting a reference to a file in another location, while embedding refers to inserting the actual file in the document. An example of linking is inserting a chart from an Excel file into a PowerPoint presentation, while an example of embedding is inserting an image into a Word document.
Inserting a document You can insert the content of previously-created Word documents into a new or different Word document. Click or tap where you want to insert the content of the existing document. Select Text from File. Locate the file that you want and then double-click it.
To insert a copy of your file into another, embed or link to it. Go to Insert Object. Select Create from File. Select Browse and choose the file you want to use. Select Insert. Choose Display as icon to embed, or Link to file for a link. Select OK.
With the document open for editing in Word for the web, use the following steps to copy the embed code: Go to File Share, and then click Embed. Click Generate. Click the Expand arrow next to Interaction to make some choices about what people can do with the embedded view of the document.
Heres a 5-step guide to get you started: Open Microsoft Word. Go to the Insert tab. Click Object in the Text group. Select Text from File. Choose the first file you want to merge, then click Insert. Do this again for each other file you wish to combine. Review the merged file and save your work.
