My name is Kyle Foye. I am a orthotic prosthetic lab technician. Iamp;#39;ve been at the VA now for about six years and my job pretty much consists of fabrication and design of prosthetic arms and legs, orthotic bracing, modification of shoes, and just about every other thing that goes on with the with the industry. A lot of the Veterans come in and letamp;#39;s say theyamp;#39;ve had an amputation. Theyamp;#39;re very concerned because itamp;#39;s something new for them. When we get a prosthetic leg built and they get to put it on and they get to walk for the first time with a prosthetic leg. Itamp;#39;s just amazing the feeling that that I get and Iamp;#39;m sure this whole, you know, lab gets as well. Thereamp;#39;s a lot that goes into it, actually, as far as the materials weamp;#39;re using, their activity levels, and you know what weamp;#39;re trying to gain from the prosthetic or orthotic device. Itamp;#39;s a hands on field, for sure, and I love that, and itamp;#39;

Every RFID system consists of three components: a scanning antenna, a transceiver and a transponder. When the scanning antenna and transceiver are combined, they are referred to as an RFID reader or interrogator. There are two types of RFID readers -- fixed readers and mobile readers.
RFID Inlays are like tags but are smaller in size and only contain the antenna and chip. RFID inlays are typically used by being embedded in something like a card or label. Inlays can be passive or active and require a shorter distance to be read from the reader device.
RFID chips are integrated circuits (IC) inside RFID tags or labels. Despite their small size, they are highly-integrated microchips that contain all the components of a controller, memory and microprocessor. The chip operates by receiving energy via the waves the antenna emits.
Today, radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology is everywhere. Its found in key fobs, your pets microchip, your tap-and-go credit card, and your cars electronic toll device. Its even found in places youd least expect.
ARC is a tag certification program [8] which ensures that RFID tags applied to pre-defined items meet or exceed the retailers performance requirements. ARC keeps a database of tags available on the market that pass certain ARC specs.
Depending on the frequency band they operate at we find different systems: low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF / NFC) and utra-high frequency (UHF). There are also two broad categories of systems: passive RFID and active RFID.
