NFC is best described as a subset of RFID. NFC devices operate at the same frequency as high frequency RFID readers and tags 13.56 MHz. But unlike RFID devices and tags, NFC does not have a range from 25 meters to 100 meters. Instead, NFC takes advantage of the short read range limitations of its radio frequency.
RFID labels are different than other labels because they have the ability to transmit data wirelessly through radio waves. Unlike traditional labels, which can only convey information that is printed on them, RFID labels can store and transmit dynamic information that can be updated in real-time.
RFID tags are a type of tracking system that uses radio frequency to search, identify, track, and communicate with items and people. Essentially, RFID tags are smart labels that can store a range of information from serial numbers, to a short description, and even pages of data.
RFID security tag systems offer a broad range of functionalities within retail environments, ranging from enhancing security to improving inventory control.
Wet inlays work best on cardboard and paper. For curved or rough surfaces, or those likely to be contaminated with dust or moisture, dry inlays are the better choice, because they allow users to apply an adhesive that will hold up better in such surfaces.
An RFID card has a thin form factor (81x54x1 mm), like a driving license or identification card, and can be kept in the users wallet. However, an RFID tag is smaller and thicker (around 20x20x5 mm) but can be kept in the users keyring.
Term. Definition / Description. ARC. The Auburn University standard that ensures RFID tags are able to meet or exceed the levels of performance and quality necessary to provide benefit to the end user in a consistent and cost-effective manner.
RFID Inlays are like tags but are smaller in size and only contain the antenna and chip. RFID inlays are typically used by being embedded in something like a card or label. Inlays can be passive or active and require a shorter distance to be read from the reader device.
