- [Jennifer] Hi there, and welcome. This is Jennifer McGuire, and I appreciate you stopping by. So I do die cutting on my cards almost as much as I do stamping. I think there are so many great things that you can do with die cutting. But I always am looking for more. I always wanna find ways to stretch my products to find new looks. Well, today Im going to share lots of techniques for die cut inlay. This is where you place die cut pieces back into its original shape, or you mix and match them. I have like nine techniques Im going to share today with even more cards. Now, Ive done some of these techniques in past videos, but I thought Id pull them all together and add a few new ones in this video. Now, Ill be using a variety of dies today, different ones that Ive been wanting to use for some time. However you can use dies that you already have. So I encourage you to watch this and then look through your stash to see what you can use for the techniques. Okay, for all of my die cut

Mix the wood dust into the glue. Thoroughly mixing the sawdust youve created into the glue disguises any gaps to make them look like part of the original material. Use any wood glue for inlaying wood into wood, or an epoxy if youre inlaying another material.
Use a clear or transparent binder when working with inlays. The goal is to find an adhesive, which is clear or transparent. This allows the color and texture of the inlay material to shine through. Once cured, both CA glue and epoxy are virtually crystal clear making them excellent adhesives for inlays.

To the inlay, just squeeze some wood glue into the grooves and press the strips in place. Theres usually no need to clamp them, but if they fit a little loose, you can hold them in place with some painters tape. Plane or sand them down flush to the workpiece.
Close-grained woods (like maple, holly, cherry, etc.) work well for inlay because of how tight their grain is. However, some may not work for a cutting board (like holly) because they discolor/stain very easily.
