There are a few reasons why you might be getting an error message when you try to insert an inline image in Gmail. The image file is too large. Gmail limits the size of images that can be inserted inline to 2MB. If your image file is larger than this, you will need to resize it before you can insert it.
Email providers, like Gmail, allow you to drag an image from a folder and drop it into an area inside the compose box that says attach files here. Gmail will automatically embed the image and realign it so its in line with the rest of the plain text.
