The primary distinction between an onlay and an inlay is that an onlay will cover a cusp of the tooth, whereas an inlay only fills the area between the cusps. The cavity is still drilled from the tooth, and an onlay is fabricated to the exact size and shape of the space.
A custom, partial tooth restoration made out of porcelain comes by many names inlay, onlay, overlay, pinlay or crown. They are all essentially the same solution. There are pros and cons to each, but the primary principle dictating which is best is the preservation of as much natural tooth as possible.
The only difference is that they cover only a part of the tooth. In a nutshell, inlays are placed inside the tooth while outlays cover from the outside.
Inlays are beneficial because they tend to strengthen teeth, are made of resin or porcelain to blend in with teeth, and are often more durable than traditional fillings. Gold or other metals can be used which are even stronger.
Inlays are used to fill, cover and patch larger portions of a cavity, hole or gap on the biting surface of a tooth than could be sealed with a filling, and where that cavity, hole or gap is contained within the cusp of your tooth (inside the perimeter as opposed to over the shoulders or cusps of the tooth.
A dental inlay is a pre-molded filling fitted into the grooves of your tooth. Its most often used as restoration for cavities (also known as dental caries) that are centered in your tooth instead of along the outer edges or cusps. These cavities have usually not progressed into more extensive tooth decay.
Axitinib is a type of cancer growth blocker called a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). Tyrosine kinase inhibitors work by blocking certain proteins (called tyrosine kinases) from acting on cells. Tyrosine kinases signal to cancer cells to grow.
Inlays are a type of indirect restoration (filling) that is used to restore extensively damaged or decayed teeth.
