Shadow DOM is a web standard that offers a way to encapsulate style and markup in web components. It is a part of the Web Components standard, which also includes HTML templates, Custom Elements, and HTML imports.
To access these Shadow DOM elements, we need to use the JavascriptExecutor executeScript() function. If you look at the DOM structure, every element that includes Shadow DOM also has a shadowRoot property that describes the underlying elements. The following methods help you interact with Shadow DOM elements.
This is what a general DIY web scraping process looks like: Identify the target website. Collect URLs of the target pages. Make a request to these URLs to get the HTML of the page. Use locators to find the information in the HTML. Save the data in a JSON or CSV file or some other structured format.
If there is a shadow element in the webpage we cannot interact directly with selenium code, normally if we locate the element by finding the Element method then it will throw NosuchElement Exception in order to overcome this situation please read the below-mentioned context.
Access the Shadow Host Element : First, you need to access the shadow host element. This is the element to which the shadow root is attached. You can do this using standard DOM methods like querySelector or by selecting the element by its ID, class, or any other selector.
Creating a shadow DOM In such cases, you can use the element to declaratively define the shadow DOM. The key to this behavior is the enumerated shadowrootmode attribute, which can be set to either open or closed , the same values as the mode option of attachShadow() method.
How to scrape sites with a shadow DOM // Find element that is shadow root of menu DOM tree. const { shadowRoot } = document. getElementById(top-navbar-view); // Create a copy of its HTML and use jQuery find links. const links = $(shadowRoot. innerHTML). // Get URLs from link elements. const urls = links.
A shadow root serves as the root of a shadow tree, which is a node tree. Through its host, a shadow root is always linked to another node tree. As a result, the shadow tree is never by itself. The node tree of the host of the shadow root is sometimes referred to as a light tree.
