Applying styles inside the shadow DOM Create an empty CSSStyleSheet object. Set its content using CSSStyleSheet.replace() or CSSStyleSheet.replaceSync() Add it to the shadow root by assigning it to ShadowRoot.adoptedStyleSheets.
Shadow DOM is a feature of the DOM that allows developers to create a shadow tree, which is a separate DOM tree that is nested inside of the main DOM tree. The shadow tree is isolated from the main DOM tree, which means that its elements and styles cannot be accessed from the main DOM tree.
To write the cssSelector for any element which is inside shadowDOM, just inspect that element and start typing. Note: shadowDOM supports only cssSelectors and it doesnt support xpath.
CSS hooks with custom properties Theres no selector that can directly affect shadow DOM styles from the document. But just as we expose methods to interact with our component, we can expose CSS variables (custom CSS properties) to style it. Custom CSS properties exist on all levels, both in light and shadow.
To access these Shadow DOM elements, we need to use the JavascriptExecutor executeScript() function. If you look at the DOM structure, every element that includes Shadow DOM also has a shadowRoot property that describes the underlying elements.
Declarative Shadow DOM can be used on its own as a way to encapsulate styles or customize child placement, but its most powerful when used with Custom Elements. Components built using Custom Elements get automatically upgraded from static HTML.
A shadow root serves as the root of a shadow tree, which is a node tree. Through its host, a shadow root is always linked to another node tree. As a result, the shadow tree is never by itself. The node tree of the host of the shadow root is sometimes referred to as a light tree.
