hereamp;#39;s an easy way to read a secret from a kubernetes cluster so if I go ahead and find a secret in my cluster um Secrets I have this one here in my Cube cross namespace for a grafana instance so I can look at the yaml output of that secret and I can see I have a few different pieces of data here I have an admin user an admin password I can pull this out directly and pass it through base64 because itamp;#39;s not actually secret itamp;#39;s just obfuscated um base64 do a Dash D to decode it and Iamp;#39;ll see I have a strong password but thereamp;#39;s a crew plugin called view secret that automatically will get this for me so if I do the same thing I have view secrets on the namespace with that secret object and then this is the data line the admin password so I can view secrets and automatically I can see it did that decode for me and shows me strong passwords so check it out itamp;#39;s a group plugin

Securing Kubernetes secrets and sensitive data involves assessing your security vulnerabilities and understanding the risks. Secrets management encompasses encryption at rest, controlling access to secrets using role-based access control (RBAC) rules, and closely monitoring the security of sensitive information.
Kubernetes Secrets are, by default, stored unencrypted in the API servers underlying data store (etcd). Anyone with API access can retrieve or modify a Secret, and so can anyone with access to etcd.
To use a Secret in a Deployment, you can add an environment variable that references the Secret. This YAML file defines a Deployment that has one container. The container has an environment variable called ` DBPASSWORD` that is set to the value of the ` password` key in the Kubernetes Secret called ` my-secret`.
Opaque Secrets: Opaque Secrets are used to store arbitrary user-defined data. Opaque is the default Secret type, meaning that when creating a Secret and you dont specify any type, the secret will be considered Opaque.
Create the Secret Convert the strings to base64: echo -n admin | base64 echo -n 1f2d1e2e67df | base64. Note: Create the manifest: apiVersion: v1 kind: Secret metadata: name: mysecret type: Opaque data: username: YWRtaW4= password: MWYyZDFlMmU2N2Rm. Create the Secret using kubectl apply : kubectl apply -f ./secret.yaml.
There is no need to escape the special characters included in a files string. You can then view the secrets details using the kubectl describe secret db-user-pass command. By default, the kubectl get and kubectl describe commands do not reveal the contents of secrets to prevent their accidental exposure.
Create the Pod There are two sections that need to be added to the pod spec when mounting a secret volume; 1) volumes, 2) volumeMounts. The volumes element is part of the pod. spec element and the volumeMounts is part of the pod. spec.
