Using the secret in a Pipeline Its important to know that this example uses a Jenkins declarative pipeline. To load the contents of the secret we just need to use the function credentials(nameofsecret) . Then, it can be assigned to any variable that can be used later on any stage.
Add and reference text secrets In your Harness account, select ACCOUNT SETTINGS, select Account Resources, and then select Secrets. Select New Secret, and then select Text. On the Add new Encrypted Text dialog, select the Secrets Manager that you want to use to encrypt this secret. Enter a Name for your secret.
To do this, navigate to the Credentials page in the Jenkins settings. This is Jenkins official credential management tool. You can add, modify, and delete secrets as needed. You can also specify which jobs or projects a secret is available for, and assign permissions to specific users or groups.
To use, first go to the Credentials link and add items of type Secret file and/or Secret text. Now in a freestyle job, check the box Use secret text(s) or file(s) and add some variable bindings which will use your credentials. The resulting environment variables can be accessed from shell script build steps and so on.
Create the Secret Convert the strings to base64: echo -n admin | base64 echo -n 1f2d1e2e67df | base64. Note: Create the manifest: apiVersion: v1 kind: Secret metadata: name: mysecret type: Opaque data: username: YWRtaW4= password: MWYyZDFlMmU2N2Rm. Create the Secret using kubectl apply : kubectl apply -f ./secret.yaml.
Secret file - click the Choose file button next to the File field to select the secret file to upload to Jenkins. SSH Username with private key - specify the credentials Username, Private Key and optional Passphrase into their respective fields.
Jenkins gives withCredentials() feature (Credentials Binding Plugin (jenkins.io)), that basically gives the closure code the option to obfuscate in UI but pass actual credentials under user specified usernameVariable and passwordVariable value-named variables.
