The Disadvantages of Epoxy Crack Injections Moisture adversely affects the adhesive qualities of the anchoring epoxy used to adhere the injection ports onto the crack. Without sufficient bond strength, the anchoring epoxy will not withstand the pressure of the injection.
Injection epoxies cure chemically within a specified time and harden further over days and weeks. Polyurethane injection foam is primarily a water activated sealant or leak-seal grout with expanding properties during reaction. The cured product creates a compression seal of varying flexibility.
Simply by attaching the injection gun (think grease gun on steroids), additional injectable packing can be added until the leak stops. After which, you just disconnect (the check valve button fitting prevents leakage), and move on to your next job.
Injection is a procedure of pumping cement-based, polyurethane-based, epoxy-based or acrylate-based material into damaged or cracked structures to securely seal leaks, repair compromised structures and make them watertight again for the long term.
Pressure injection of these liquid polyurethane resins forces the material into leaking cracks or behind leaking walls depending on the application. After the polyurethane injection is complete, the polyurethane resin rapidly reacts with water to form a watertight seal to seal water leaks.
This leak sealing method involves injecting grout in a pattern that forms a waterproof barrier, particularly behind tunnel linings, offering a robust solution to water ingress. While epoxy injection is primarily used for structural repairs, it also serves as an effective barrier against water intrusion.
