Fuel injector seals are small but essential components of your engine system. These seals create a tight seal between the fuel injector and the cylinder head, preventing fuel and air leakage.
Usually they will last the life of vehicle, so the brief answer is never. The most certain way for them fail is to disturb the injectors. For the top O ring this will be evident by pooling and staining of fuel on the manifold and injector body or fuel rail.
To replace an injector seal at a mechanics will be about 50.
It is also recommended to replace the fuel injector O-rings as part of regular vehicle maintenance, typically every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on the manufacturers recommendations.
Does your vehicle suffer from any of the following? Difficult starting. Erratic or uneven tick-over or idle. Lumpy running. Hesitation on acceleration. Smoke on tick over or acceleration. Black tar around the injectors. Chuffing sound from the engine when running. A strong smell of unburnt fuel.
