Oh sometimes you need to count how many participants or how many objects you have in your data set so Iamp;#39;m going to quickly show you how to do that oftentimes youamp;#39;re going to want to do that when doing any sort of statistics on participant data so that you can know what your end sizes or your sample size so in this spreadsheet Iamp;#39;ve already shown you in another video how to calculate this average so you can click right up here in order to figure out how to do an average but letamp;#39;s quickly now show you how to do the sample size so if you click type in equals start typing count so it counts and what the one you want is going to be dependent on the type of data you have so you can use this just straight forward count function which as you can read here is going to count the number of cells in your range that have numbers so I could use that if I was counting the age here or I could do count a which is going to count how many cells within my range are not blank

How to generate a random sample using Excel Add a new column within the spreadsheet and name it Randomnumber. In the first cell underneath your heading row, type = RAND() Press Enter, and a random number will appear in the cell. Copy and paste the first cell into the other cells in this column.
The easiest way to add a text string to a cell is to use an ampersand character (), which is the concatenation operator in Excel. This works in all versions of Excel 2007 - Excel 365.
The rand() function is the key tool needed to take a random sample. If you enter the function =rand() in a cell, Excel is equally likely to return any number between 0 and 1. For example, there is a 10% chance you will see a number between 0 and 0.1 and a 20% chance you will see a number between 0.8 and 1.
Create a named range with a name like SLUG, and copy-paste the following formula into the Refers to box. We can also use the LET function, which allow creating names in the function context, to improve this formula. The LET function can be used multiple times instead of bulky formula snippets.
Calculating sample mean in Excel is very simple. All you need to do is enter the data points into a spreadsheet, then use the Excel function AVERAGE to calculate the mean. To find the mean, select the cell where you want the mean to appear, then type =AVERAGE(data range) into the formula bar.
To tell Excel that you want to sample data from a data set, first click the Data tabs Data Analysis command button. When Excel displays the Data Analysis dialog box, select Sampling from the list and then click OK. Excel displays the Sampling dialog box. Identify the input range.
The Formula of Random Sampling (N-n/N-(n-1)). Here P is a probability, n is the sample size, and N represents the population. Now if one cancels 1-(N-n/n), it will provide P = n/N. Moreover, the chance of a sample getting selected more than once is needed: P = 1-(1-(1/N)) n.
Example of calculating sample sizes in Excel To apply the count function, use = before the count function. You will get the recommendation of the function which starts with that letter. Select the count function, click on the value 1, then select the data under-sample. Press enter.
