Trigger point injections are used to treat a condition called Myofascial Pain Syndrome which is when you have very painful and tender areas in muscles. A trigger point can be felt under the skin as a knot or ropy band of muscle because the muscle has stopped relaxing. The knot can twitch when touched.
Injection Point: Injection Points are locations where chemicals, or process additives, are introduced into a process stream.
Trigger point injections can reduce localized muscle pain by relaxing the affected muscles, and researchers believe that the injections interrupt the nerve signaling pathways that cause referred pain. Possible causes of myofascial trigger points include: injury or trauma to a muscle. repetitive motions.
Trigger points can develop in any muscle, but the most common muscle groups that are treated with trigger point injections include: Masseter (a muscle in your jaw). Levator scapulae (a muscle on the sides of your neck). Gluteus medius (a muscle in your hip).
What are trigger point injections used for? Healthcare providers use trigger point injections to help treat myofascial pain. Myo means muscle and fascial means fascia. Your fascia is the thin, white docHub tissue thats wrapped around every muscle.
PHE (2013) advised that if you are physically clean and in good general health then swabbing prior to injecting is not required. Where to inject The easiest site when self-administering an IM injection is the middle third of the vastus lateralis muscle of the thigh.
Once stabilized, using the dominant hand, the clinician will insert the needle attached to the 5 or 10mL syringe at a 30-degree angle into the trigger point and rhythmically continue needling the area by repeatedly inserting and retracting the needle without completely withdrawing the needle from the muscle.
