Right-click on the selected cells and choose Format Cells from the menu. In the Format Cells dialog box, select the Protection tab. Check the box next to Locked to lock the selected cells. Click OK to save your changes.
Require a password to open a spreadsheet Choose File Set Password (from the File menu at the top of your screen), enter the requested information, then click Set Password.
Protect, hide, and edit sheets Open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Click Data. Protect sheets and ranges. Click Add a sheet or range or click an existing protection to edit it. To protect a range, click Range. Click Set permissions or Change permissions. Choose how you want to limit editing:
Unprotect an Excel worksheet Go to the worksheet you want to unprotect. Go to File Info Protect Unprotect Sheet, or from the Review tab Changes Unprotect Sheet. If the sheet is protected with a password, then enter the password in the Unprotect Sheet dialog box and select OK.
Select the cells you want to lock. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, select the small arrow to open the Format Cells popup window. On the Protection tab, select the Locked check box, and then select OK to close the popup.
For stronger protection, set read-only status by locking the workbook with the Finder, or require a password to save changes. Open the workbook you want to protect. Click the File menu, and then click Passwords. In the File Passwords dialog box, select the Read-only recommended check box, and click OK.
Now select only the cells or columns, rows that you want to protect. Right click and choose Format cells again. Go to the protection tab and check Locked option and click Ok. Go to Review tab, click Protect Sheet and protect the sheet using a password.
Protect an Excel file Select File Info. Select the Protect Workbook box and choose Encrypt with Password. Enter a password in the Password box, and then select OK. Confirm the password in the Reenter Password box, and then select OK.
