The Outline feature in Excel creates an interactive set of buttons where you can hide or show certain details of your worksheet. You can have Excel automatically create the outline by using the Auto Outline command or create customized outlines using the Group command.
Select a cell or a range of cells to which you want to add borders. On the Home tab, in the Font group, click the down arrow next to the Borders button, and you will see a list of the most popular border types. Click the border you want to apply, and it will be immediately added to the selected cells.
Select a cell in the range of cells you want to outline. Go to Data Outline Group Group, and then select Auto Outline.
If you receive a pop-up box that says Cannot create an outline, your data doesnt have an outline-compatible formula in it. You may also have some blank cells in your data or missing column headers. Youll need to manually outline the data.
The outline symbols dont show up in Excel Go to the File tab Options Advanced category. Scroll down to the Display options for this worksheet section, select the worksheet of interest, and make sure the Show outline symbols if an outline is applied box is selected.
By default, AutoFill is enabled in Excel. However, it is possible that the Autofill settings have been changed. To check the Autofill settings, go to File Options Advanced and scroll down to the Editing options section. Make sure that the Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop option is selected.
