Base64 is a scheme for converting binary data to printable ASCII characters, namely the upper- and lower-case Roman alphabet characters (AZ, az), the numerals (09), and the + and / symbols, with the = symbol as a special suffix code. Base64 only contains AZ , az , 09 , + , / and = . So the list of characters not to be used is: all possible characters minus the ones mentioned above. For special purposes . and are possible, too.

This error happens when the string that you are trying to transform contains a character not recognized by the basic Base 64 Alphabet (in this case it was an underscore character).
