LEGEND Multi Dose (20 mL) and LEGEND 4 mL (40 mg) can be injected intravenously only at a dosage of 4 mL. Intravenous treatment may be repeated at weekly intervals for a total of 3 treatments. LEGEND 2 mL (20 mg) can be injected intravenously (at a dosage of 4 mL) or intra-articularly in the carpus or fetlock.
Legend is used as an intravenous injection, as opposed to the IM injection with Adequan. This 4cc IV injection is administered once weekly, for four weeks, and then on a monthly basis.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: 4 mL (40 mg) injected intravenously. Treatment may be repeated at weekly intervals for a total of three treatments. Use aseptic technique and inject slowly into the jugular vein. Horses should be given stall rest after treatment before gradually resuming normal activity.
How to administer an intramuscular injection Wash your hands. Wash your hands with soap and warm water to prevent potential infection. Gather all the needed supplies. Locate the injection site. Clean the injection site. Prepare the syringe with medication. Self-inject with a syringe. Inject the medication. Remove the needle.
Adverse Reactions/Side Effects Following intra-articular use: lameness, joint effusion, joint or injection site swelling, and joint pain. For medical emergencies or to report adverse reactions, call 1-800-422-9874.
Injection Site The land marks for injecting in the neck muscle are: You should inject in the triangle approximately a hands width above the shoulder blade, about half way between the nuchal ligament and cervical vertebrae.
