Python has a function called legend() which is used to place a legend on the axis. The legend function has an attribute called loc which is used to denote the location of the legend. The default value of attribute loc is upper left. Other string, such as upper right, lower left, lower right can also be used.
How to modify a Matplotlib legend after it has been created? Set the figure size and adjust the padding between and around the subplots. Plot a line using plot() method, with two lists and a label. Use legend() method to place a legend over the plot. To modify the matplotlib legend, use settitle() method.
To add legends to a Pandas plot, you can use the legend method on the AxesSubplot object returned by the plot function. Provide a list of labels for the legend corresponding to the columns in your DataFrame.
Set the DisplayName property as a name-value pair when calling the plotting functions. Then, call the legend command to create the legend. Legends automatically update when you add or delete a data series. If you add more data to the axes, use the DisplayName property to specify the labels.

To create a scatter plot with a legend one may use a loop and create one scatter plot per item to appear in the legend and set the label ingly. The following also demonstrates how transparency of the markers can be adjusted by giving alpha a value between 0 and 1.
This function can be used to add legends to plots. Note that a call to the function locator(1) can be used in place of the x and y arguments.
