Use these tips to ease the pain and stress of self-injections. Try to Relax. If you are nervous about administering your injection, your muscles will tense up and increase the pain. ... Numb Your Skin. ... Warm Up Your Medication. ... Rotate Your Injection Site. ... Massage Post-Injection.
Answer: Yes, the needle needs to go in all the way.
Once you think you're in a vein, pull the plunger back to see if blood comes into the syringe. If so, and the blood is dark red and slow moving, you know that you've hit a vein. You can now untie your tourniquet and proceed to inject your drugs.
Inject at a 90-degree angle, to ensure the medication reaches the muscle. Inject medication over 1-2 seconds. After removing the needle, use gentle pressure with a cotton ball or gauze. Do not massage the injection site.
Some medicines—such as the hormone testosterone or fertility medicines—need to be injected into a muscle to work. This type of shot is usually given in the thigh or hip. If it's easier, you may want to have someone else give you the shot in your hip.
Insert needle at an 45o angle to the skin. Pinch up on SQ tissue to prevent injecting into muscle. Aspiration before injection is not required.
Your injecting needle should be long enough to reach through the subcutaneous fat layer into the muscle (usually 1.25 or 1.5 inch), and a guage between 22g - 25g. Never re-use a needle.
Hold the muscle around the spot with your thumb and index finger. With a quick firm thrust, put the needle into the muscle straight up and down, at a 90 degree angle. Push the medicine into the muscle. Pull the needle straight out.
Insert the IM needle to a depth of at least one inch into the muscle at a 90 degree angle with one quick and firm motion (FIGURE 7). After inserting the needle into the muscle, keep the skin pulled tight and firmly push the plunger down slowly and completely to finish the injection.
Put the injection in the center of the triangle of the muscle. This should be 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 centimeters) below that bone.
