InDesign can crop an imported EPS, TIFF, or Photoshop graphic using the clipping path or alpha channel saved with the file.
If youre going to do heavy editing, its better to shoot in RAW. But if youre going to be sharing the file, then its a good idea to convert it to a TIFF. Does TIFF lose quality? The short answer is no, TIFF doesnt compress your images and you dont lose quality every time you open and re-save the file.
A TIFF file, for example, can be a container holding JPEG (lossy) and PackBits (lossless) compressed images. A TIFF file also can include a vector-based clipping path (outlines, croppings, image frames).
One of the primary advantages of shooting in RAW is the ability to make extensive adjustments without compromising image quality. RAW files store all the data captured by your camera, allowing for docHub edits in exposure, white balance, and color correction.
Because of their large size, TIFF files usually arent used for everyday marketing content. While a TIFF file might be the original creative file, it will likely be converted to another format to be used in slide decks, websites, and other marketing materials. Avoid TIFF files for: Web graphics.
Both are lossless, meaning theres no degradation in image quality. When saving as 16-bit, Capture One Pro offers only ZIP compression as it is much more efficient at this color depth than LZW.
Again, if you are planning on manipulating your images in the future, RAW or TIFF files are best. One of the cool things about TIFF files is that lossless compression allows them to have all the same data as a RAW file but still be smaller (saving you precious storage space).
Which file is best for photography JPEG or TIFF? A TIFF will enable you to store richer, more detailed images. Its good practice to save your original (or source) photos as TIFF files. JPEGs, meanwhile, might be a better choice for exporting your finished edits because theyre easier to share and print.
