a tip to find the insertion point for the IIA is to look for the groove which is here and then look for the base of the naturally formed triangle here if you insert here you will hit bone and if you insert here youamp;#39;ll be more in the throat often times you may only have a short needle available for this injection which can still provide successful anesthesia one tip to know if youamp;#39;re at the correct angles is if youamp;#39;re touching or close to the laal commisure with the barrel when youamp;#39;re at the maximum depth the only difference when using the short needle is that you insert four fths of the needle length like so for safety purposes never bury it to the hub and never bend the needle prior to insertion at this point you will aspirate and then deposit the solution

One of the side effects of steroid injections is atrophy. Atrophy appears as an indentation in the skin at the site of injection. The patient may refer to it as a dimple or a depression. Others may call it a dent or even a hole The indentation can often be better felt than seen.
Steroid injections can cause atrophy or indents. its due to collagen production being shut off by the steroids. Atrophy does not happen to everyone. It is more likely to happen at higher doses of steroids (like 10 mg per mL of triamcinolone acetonide) but can happen at 5 mg per mL and even 2.5 mg per mL.
If you get a depression after a cortisone shot, Dr. Massick says that injecting normal saline into the dent might reverse itbut its better to take precautions beforehand.
This happens when the steroid solution which is commonly known as Kenalog collects at the site of the injection, either in the muscle or in the fatty tissue. The steroid changes the consistency of the tissue causing tissue loss which results in a dent or dimple in the skin which is due to fat necrosis.
Though these injections are known to be effective and safe, one possible side effect can be a dent left in the skin at the injection site. Over time your body should fill this back in, but in rare instances it may be permanent.
Skin changes can last weeks to months after receiving a cortisone shot. And while they tend to go away on their own, it may take 6 months or longer for this to happen. Speak with your healthcare provider if you have concerns about skin changes associated with cortisone shots.
