Inline SQL comments will begin with two dashes (--) in front of them in a query or dbt model; any text following these dashes is therefore what youd call commented out. For longer, multi-line comments, youll typically see this syntax /* your multi-line comment here */ used. Begin the comment with a slash and an asterisk (/*). Proceed with the text of the comment. This text can span multiple lines. End the comment with an asterisk and a slash (*/).
A comment can be added at creation by following the column declaration with the COMMENT keyword (not property). The comment can then be changed using this command.
The syntax for a comment in a line of SQL code is a double hyphen ( -- ) at the beginning of the line. The comment affects all of the SQL code in the line.
In MySQL, the -- (double-dash) comment style requires the second dash to be followed by at least one whitespace or control character (such as a space, tab, newline, and so on). This syntax differs slightly from standard SQL comment syntax, as discussed in Section 1.7. 2.4, -- as the Start of a Comment.
