By injecting the always true OR 1=1 statement, malicious hackers attempt to circumvent the password verification process. The database will return all user records, including the admin user, without checking the password.
INSERT Statements If the application is vulnerable, an attacker can inject arbitrary values in to the database using crafted input. Having determined that the application is processing SQL queries, if we can locate where the injected data is reflected back by the application, we can alter our input to extract data.
A SQL injection (SQLi) is a technique that attackers use to gain unauthorized access to a web application database by adding a string of malicious code to a database query.
SQL injection attacks allow attackers to spoof identity, tamper with existing data, cause repudiation issues such as voiding transactions or changing balances, allow the complete disclosure of all data on the system, destroy the data or make it otherwise unavailable, and become administrators of the database server.
SQL (Structured query language) Injection.
The implications of SQL injection can be catastrophic. If this happens on a login page, it can return all user records, including usernames and passwords. If a simple query to retrieve data is successful, queries to modify data will also be successful.
A hacker executes an SQL injection with an SQL statement that is always true. For instance, 1=1; instead of just entering the wrong input, the hacker uses a statement that will always be true. Entering 100 OR 1=1 in the query input box will return a response with the details of a table.
SQL injection, also known as SQLI, is a common attack vector that uses malicious SQL code for backend database manipulation to access information that was not intended to be displayed. This information may include any number of items, including sensitive company data, user lists or private customer details.
