Since 1 always equals 1, all rows are retrieved. While this injection may occasionally result in a successful login, one must consider the developers perspective. If a developer expects only one matching row for valid credentials, they would code the login check ingly.
By using WHERE 1=1 , you can easily comment out other conditions without altering the structure of the query.
A hacker executes an SQL injection with an SQL statement that is always true. For instance, 1=1; instead of just entering the wrong input, the hacker uses a statement that will always be true. Entering 100 OR 1=1 in the query input box will return a response with the details of a table.
Most SQL injection vulnerabilities occur within the WHERE clause of a SELECT query. Most experienced testers are familiar with this type of SQL injection. However, SQL injection vulnerabilities can occur at any location within the query, and within different query types.
By injecting the always true OR 1=1 statement, malicious hackers attempt to circumvent the password verification process. The database will return all user records, including the admin user, without checking the password.
When you use 1=1 as the condition, it essentially means where true . Since the equality condition 1=1 is always true, the WHERE clause does not filter out any records. In other words, it returns all the records from the table without any filtering.
The IDENTITY(1,1) property means that the id column will start from 1 and increase by 1 for each new row. You can also use negative values for the increment to create a descending sequence.
The AS command is used to rename a column or table with an alias. An alias only exists for the duration of the query.
