To sew a perfect circle, place a thumb tack on your sewing machine with the point sticking up. Hold the tack in place with a piece of transparent tape. Poke the tack through your fabric and pivot the fabric around the tack as you sew.

Actually, you can build in a beautiful curve while you a lapped zipper successfully and easily by hand. Traditionally, a nicely shaped seam is easy enough to attain by clipping into the seam allowances.
Put your zip foot onto your machine with the needle to the right and the foot to the left. Sew the zip in all the way down the left side. When you get just beyond the teeth of the zip leave the needle in the fabric and turn the fabric at a right angle so you can sew across the bottom.
Press the lining and main panels away from the zipper (being careful not to iron on top of the zipper so it doesnt melt). Topstitch close to the edge up one side, along the zippers edge and down the other side. Repeat for the other side and you have a finished recessed zipper ready to sew into a bag!
Pin the zipper in place on your fabric circle. The sides of the snipped zipper tape should be flush with the raw edges of the fabric circle. Attach a Zipper foot. Stitch this first side of the zipper in place all around.
Sewing a Basic Zipper Pin one side of the zipper face-down to the edge of a fabric piece. Stitch alongside the zipper teeth with a sewing machine with a zipper foot. Pin the other side of the zipper to the second piece of fabric. Sew along the length of the zippers fabric to attach the pieces.
