3. The ASCII code for a blank space is the decimal number 32, or the binary number 0010 00002. Why do you think it is important to have a code for a blank space?
The ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) NULL and zero are represented as 0x00 and 0x30 respectively. An ASCII NULL character serves as a sentinel character of strings in C/C++. When the programmer uses 0 in his code, it will be represented as 0x30 in hex form.
Returns the ASCII code for the first character of a string. If the string is empty, a value of 0 is returned.
Inserting ASCII Characters Go to Home tab, in the Font group, change the font to Wingdings (or other font set). Press and hold the ALT key and type the character code on the numeric keypad. Change the font back to your previous font after inserting the symbol.
Using the number pad on a Windows computer lets you use the ANSI code for special characters and symbols. Press Alt + [the number code for the symbol or accented letter]. For example, Alt + 1 inserts ☺, while Alt + 0153 inserts the trademark .
The last example in Table 4.3, 0, is called the NULL character, whose ASCII value is zero. Once again, this is NOT the same character as the printable digit character, 0, whose ASCII value is 48.
On some keyboards, one can enter a null character by holding down Ctrl and pressing @ (on US layouts just Ctrl + 2 will often work, there being no need for ⇧ Shift to get the @ sign). The Hexadecimal notation for null is 00 .
chr(0) is NULL character, which is very docHub and chr(32) is . The point of NULL character is to terminate strings for example. So what you see like x = abcd is actaully x = abcd\00 , where of course \00 is the same as chr(0) .
