Closed captioning is time-synchronized text that reflects an audio track and can be read while watching visual content. The process of closed captioning involves transcribing the audio to text, dividing that text into chunks known as caption frames, and then synchronizing the caption frames with the video.
With accuracy, the FCC states that closed captions must match the spoken words in the audio to the fullest extent. This includes preserving any slang or accents in the content and adding non-speech elements. For live captioning, some leniency does apply.
After you upload your video, you can add captions to it. On your computer, sign in to drive.google.com. Click the video you want to add captions to. Click More. Click Add new caption tracks. Click Select file and choose a caption or transcript file. Choose the language for the captions and a name for the track.
How to add captions to videos. Upload media. Choose a video to upload to the online caption generator. Generate captions. Edit your video captions if needed, then choose a font style to add to your new video. Continue editing. Download your new video with captions as an MP4 file or keep editing in docHub Express.
Captions should coincide with the relevant soundtrack, to preserve the relation between sound and visuals. The reading speed should not exceed 180 words per minute (3 words per second). The pace of a video sometimes makes it impractical to include every word or sound effect in caption form.
Accuracy: Captions must relay the speakers exact words with correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar with 99% accuracy and no paraphrasing. Captions must honor the original tone and intent of the speaker. Captions must match background noises and other sounds to the fullest extent possible.
Broadcasters, cable companies, and satellite television service providers must provide closed captioning for 100% of all new, non-exempt, English language video programming. Closed captioning must also be provided for televised emergency information in some locations.
