Arrows connect Nodes, showing that one Party has a relationship with another. Most often, this is used to show a Direct Interest.
Composition arrows show up in UML class diagrams when we want to show a similar association to aggregation, with a key difference. Composition associations show relationships where the sub-object exists only as long as the container class exists. The classes have a common lifecycle.
Inheritance: a solid line with a solid arrowhead that points from a sub-class to a superclass or from a sub-interface to its super-interface.
The directional arrow and a verb phrase identify the object association. An arrow pointing to the left will read from right to left (the direction of the arrow). The filled diamond represents aggregation composition, the exclusive ownership of one object by another.
The 0..1 notation is used to denote zero or one. The following notation indicates that every object in Class A is associated with zero or one object in Class B, and that every object in Class B is associated with exactly one object in Class A. The 0.. * notation is used to denote zero or more (many).
UML class diagram In object-oriented programming this relationship can be represented with a Unified Modeling Language Class diagram. This has-a relationship is also known as composition. As you can see from the Class Diagram on the right a car has-a carburetor, or a car is composed of a carburetor.
The UML class diagram maps out the objects attributes, operations, and how they relate. The arrows that connect classes show important relationships. The arrows denote association, inheritance, aggregation, composition, dependency, and realization among others.
To show the relationship in UML, a broken line with an unfilled solid arrowhead is drawn from the class that defines the functionality of the class that implements the function. In the example, the printing preferences that are set using the printer setup interface are being implemented by the printer.
