in this history illustrated video were going to take a look at the way that we talk about indentured servants in american history now typically indentured servants were used on plantations so if you remember from previous videos or lessons that plantation was a very large farm and because they were very large they needed a lot of workers so the people who owned plantations needed a lot of workers and there just was not enough in the very early days of jamestown so they were growing things like uh cash crops so the first cash crop being tobacco later on being cotton which is what i have in this field here so its cotton here it required a lot of work and there just was not enough people to work on the farm so they had to start looking for people from somewhere else so they turned to people or workers from typically europe so european workers here would want to come work on these farms now it was pretty difficult for them to work to get there because its across the atlantic ocean and m
