An RxJS Subject is a special type of Observable that allows values to be multicasted to many Observers. While plain Observables are unicast (each subscribed Observer owns an independent execution of the Observable), Subjects are multicast. A Subject is like an Observable, but can multicast to many Observers.
Subjects are a type of Observable. However, unlike an Observable, Subjects can emit events/values to its subscribers using the next() function. Therefore, you can publish changes (using next()) to a Subject and listen for changes (using subscribe()).
A Subject represents a grouping of related information for a single entity, such as a person. Such information includes the Subjects identities as well as its security-related attributes (passwords and cryptographic keys, for example). Subjects may potentially have multiple identities.
A Subject is a special type of Observable which shares a single execution path among observers. You can think of this as a single speaker talking at a microphone in a room full of people. Their message (the subject) is being delivered to many (multicast) people (the observers) at once.
Subject subject = AsyncSubject. create(); Refer to this documentation for the different type of subjects that are supported: Subject subject = AsyncSubject. create(); If you want to return it to the user you can of course downcast it to Observable so the user has no clue it is actually a Subject.
The identity under which an application engages in JGSS secure communication with a peer is called principal. A principal can be a real user or an unattended service. A principal acquires security mechanism-specific credentials as proof of identity under that mechanism.
The main difference between an Observable and a Subject is that a plain Observable by default is unicast. It means that each subscribed Observer owns an independent execution of the Observable. On the other hand, Subjects are multicast. A Subject is like an Observable, but it can multicast to many Observers.
The Subject API is used to integrate a java application with a sites existing Identity Management operations (see architectural diagram). It enables any type of object whose identity is being managed - person, group, application, computer, etc.
