Selecting Your Subject The easiest way is to use the Quick Selection Tool. If youre using the latest version of Photoshop, click Select Subject. Use the Lasso Tool to draw freehand around them. For a more precise cutout, use the Pen Tool.
Use Select Subject to tell Photoshop to automatically select the main subject on a layer. Then add a layer mask. The layer mask automatically hides the area that was not selectedthe background around the subject.
With any of Photoshops selection tools active, click the Select and Mask button in the Options Bar. Clicking the Select and Mask button. Then at the top of the Select and Mask workspace, click the same arrow to choose either Device or Cloud before clicking the Select Subject button.
Once youve loaded an image into Photoshop, just select that Layer, click on the Select menu, and then on Select Subject. Thats it! Photoshop does all the work behind the scenes and will create a selection of what it thinks the subject is in the photo.
1 Correct answer And in Select and Mask, make sure you have the Opacity slider dragged far enough to the right so that you can see the mask clearly. If it helps, make sure you have the correct layer targeted in the Layers panel (not an adjustment layer, for instance) before launching Select and Mask.
In the Options bar, click the Select Subject button. If you dont see the Select Subject button in the Select And Mask task space, make sure the Quick Selection tool (the first one in the toolbox) is selected.
Two ways to unlock or lock a Photoshop layer. With the Layers panel: Go to your Layers panel and select the layer youd like to unlock. With the keyboard shortcut: You can also use the keyboard shortcut of Command+/ (on Mac) or Ctrl+/ (on Windows) to lock or unlock any layer that you have selected.
In the Options bar, click the Select Subject button. If you dont see the Select Subject button in the Select And Mask task space, make sure the Quick Selection tool (the first one in the toolbox) is selected.
