An external style sheet can be created in any text editor. It must be saved with a . css extension, and the CSS file cannot contain any HTML tags. The HTML and CSS files should be in the same folder.
Make sure that you add the rel attribute to the link tag When you add an external CSS file to your HTML document, you need to add the rel=stylesheet attribute to the tag to make it work. If you omit the rel attribute from the tag then the style wont be applied to the page.
Select Preferences under the Edit menu. Once the Preferences dialog comes up, select the Web Content section (under Web Browser). Make sure that Show Style Sheets, Allow page to specify colors, and Allow page to specify fonts are all checked.
The external style sheet may be written in any text editor but must be saved with a . css extension. This file should not contain HTML elements. Lets take an example of a style sheet file named mystyle.External CSS
Note: There are two different ways to import a CSS file into another using @import url(style2. css); or @import style2. css; or directly import any CSS file or multiple CSS file in the HTML file directly within @import style1.
The problem may be that your browser is caching the CSS file. If youre debugging with Edge, you can open the F12 tools and click on the Network tab. At the top, youll find a button to always refresh from server. Turn this on, and files wont be cached. Chrome has a similar feature.
css . External stylesheets use the tag inside the head element.
If you are adding/modifying in-line CSS or JavaScript and not seeing the changes reflected in the HTML source, the page is likely being cached. The solution may be to purge the WordPress object cache, which stores our page caching (Batcache) renders.
The @import rule allows you to import a style sheet into another style sheet. The @import rule must be at the top of the document (but after any @charset declaration). The @import rule also supports media queries, so you can allow the import to be media-dependent.
The href attribute In such a case you can write href=style. css . If the CSS file and the HTML file are in different folders, you need to write the correct path that needs to go from the HTML file to the CSS file. In this case you would need to write a path like css/styles.
