However not everybody knows all the different things that it can do. Let me start off with a simple one. You can get the word count of your document by simply going to View, then Show Word Count or Shift Command W. This brings up the word count at the bottom of the screen. It tells you the word count of the entire document. But if you select some text it will tell you the word count of just that selection. If you click here you can see the character count with or without spaces, words, paragraphs, or pages. You can switch to one of those to be the default. Now heres something

Youll need to manually type your changes in the table of contents.Update a table of contents Go to References Update Table. Select one of the following: Update page numbers only This only updates the pages that the headings are on, and ignores any changes to the heading text. Select OK.
Click Edit at the top of the sidebar, then select the paragraph styles you want to include. Place the insertion point where you want the table of contents to appear, then do one of the following: Add a TOC for the whole document: Click the Insert Table of Contents button at the bottom of the Table of Contents sidebar.
