Youve been given a poster assignment or youre going to present a poster at a conference. Lets pretend that the poster has to be 36 by 48 inches. But how do you do that? This video will show you how to correctly size a poster in PowerPoint. When you open PowerPoint to create your poster, youll be given a blank slide. Its best to size your poster before you have any content in it. To change the size of the slide on a Mac or PC running Office 2016, go to the tab that says Design. All the way to the right, youll see an icon for slide size. There are two automatic options, but in a Mac, youll want to click on Page Setup. For a PC, click on Custom Slide Size. Youll see the standard measurement in inches, so simply change the numbers to what youre required to have. Youll notice that the slide sized for will change to Custom rather than widescreen. All slides should use a minimum font size of 24 points. The document should utilize recommended fonts, e.g., Palatino, Georgia, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, and Helvetica. If color is used to emphasize the importance of selected text or convey other meaning, an alternate method (such as bold text) should also be used.
The 7x7 rule is simple: For every slide, use no more than seven lines of text or seven bullet points and no more than seven words per line. Slide titles arent included in the count.
