Inserting ASCII characters To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad. You must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers, and not the keyboard.
However, if you want to display which key was pressed, you have to convert it into an HTML code that can be displayed. You do this by adding # in front of the Unicode number, and ; after, and this will display in HTML as the actual unicode character. For example: #74; will display J in HTML.
To automatically generate Unicode codeponts for selected glyph cells, select the Font Generate Unicodes menu command. To generate Unicode codepoints for all glyphs in the font, choose Edit Select All in the Font window, then Font Generate Unicodes .
Place your cursor in the file at the spot where you want to insert the symbol. Go to Insert Symbol. Pick a symbol, or choose More Symbols. Scroll up or down to find the symbol you want to insert.
Special characters like em dashes or section marks () Go to Insert Symbol More Symbols. Go to Special Characters. Double-click the character that you want to insert.
(arithmetic) The symbol + used to denote the operation of addition, to indicate that a number is positive, and so on.
Inserting Unicode Characters Type the character code where you want to insert the Unicode symbol. Press ALT+X to convert the code to the symbol. If youre placing your Unicode character immediately after another character, select just the code before pressing ALT+X.
