hi and welcome students todays tutorial will be in Microsoft Word 2016 and we have a video request from my young my young says hi I want to make page numbers which start from the third page and have a display of page number one may I have a lecture from you thanks all right well Im gonna go ahead and do that right now in this tutorial Im gonna show you how to not only add in a custom header containing the page number but also make that page number appear from a specific page in your document lets go ahead and get started so the first thing that I see here is my Microsoft Word document whats on it is not very important Im basically going to show you this entire documents that you know how it works the first page here I just called it abstract the second page I called about the author the third page right down here is called introduction this is where I want my first page header to show up alright and then I have one two more pages after that so ideally introduction will display w

Insert page numbers into a report Open the report in Design view or Layout view. On the Design tab, in the Header / Footer group, click Page Numbers. Choose the format, position, and alignment that you want for the page numbers. Clear the Show Number on First Page check box if you do not want a number on the first page.
The only reason your running head is disappearing is because youre using the top of page page numbering option to apply the numbering. Select the position you want the page # to appear at abd use the current position page numbering option instead.
Answer Click on the Insert tab. Click on Page Number in the Header Footer group. Choose the location of page number (usually top of page). ​ The header will open and the page number is inserted. Your name and subsequent page numbers will now appear on all pages of your document.
At the top of the page, under Header and Footer Tools, click the box that says Different first page. In the Header, type Running head: and then your abbreviated title in all caps. Tab over twice and type in the numeral 1.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
Insert Page X of Y Go to Insert Page Number. Do one of the following: Select Current Position if you have a header or footer. Scroll until you see Page X of Y and select a format. Select Close Header and Footer, or double-click anywhere outside the header or footer area.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
On the Header Footer Tools Design tab, in the Options group, select the check box for Different First Page. Insert page numbers in the top right corner of your paper and in the top left corner, type Running head: TITLE. This title is abbreviated.
