The main advantage of shooting in RAW is that you end up with high-quality files to edit into the best possible image. Capturing and storing all the details that pass through your cameras sensors means RAW files contain a wider dynamic range and far greater color spectrum than JPEGs.
RAW (unedited/unretouched) is sometimes called digital negative and at first it doesnt have any color or contrast. And it allows the photographer to do any kind of correction or editing.
A raw file is simply the raw, unedited data collected by the cameras sensor. Its not really even an image file yet just a matrix of numbers. Different brands and models save this info differently, and it needs to be decoded (using software such as Photoshop, Lightroom etc) before you can even visualise it.
Another way you can add text to your photos in Lightroom is to add a watermark or identity plate. Adding watermarks and identity plates to images is slightly easier than adding other types of text to photos in Lightroom.
All raw files require subsequent editing so, unless you want to edit your digital images, there is little point in shooting raw files.
A RAW file is lossless, meaning it captures uncompressed data from your camera sensor. Sometimes referred to as a digital negative, you can think of a RAW file as the raw ingredients of a photo that will need to be processed in order to bring out the pictures full potential.

A RAW file on the other hand, is an uncompressed version of the image file. Essentially the camera takes the image data from the sensor, and saves it in an unedited and uncompressed format on the memory card.
