Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
Footnotes are notes indicated in your text with numbers and placed at the bottom of the page. Theyre used to provide: Citations (e.g., in Chicago notes and bibliography)
Here are the steps to take: Place your cursor in the body text where you want the footnote superscript to appear. Select the References tab in the ribbon toolbar. Click Insert Footnote. Type your footnote ing to style. Repeat the process for every additional footnote.
If you want to include a substantive comment in your footnote, as well as a citation, put the citation first, followed by the comment in a new sentence.
Note citations are: Indicated by a superscript numeral in the text. Listed in the footnote/endnote in standard font size. Numbered consecutively. Placed at the end of a sentence/clause. Placed after quotation marks and punctuation (with the exception of dashes) Placed before dashes.
In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and authors name along with other information related to the type of citation.
Footnotes (sometimes just called notes) are what they sound likea note (or a reference to a source of information) which appears at the foot (bottom) of a page. In a footnote referencing system, you indicate a reference by: Putting a small number above the line of type directly following the source material.
Endnote. Note citing a particular source or making a brief explanatory comment placed at the end of a research paper and arranged sequentially in relation to where the reference appears in the paper.
