motif as a literary technique I dont let the word throw you motif is just a recurring image sound action or other figure even a color that has a symbolic significance it is a symbol that recurs multiple times in a story or a novel and this is really important it contributes toward the development of a theme so it cant just be a random symbol somewhere in the story it has to actually contribute to a theme of the story so think of the colors black and white in Star Wars black and white is symbolic of good and evil Luke Skywalker wearing white and hes the good guy Darth Vader wearing black and hes the evil guy and this contributes towards the theme of the battle between good and evil so it is a motif so Steinbeck in Of Mice and Men has an interesting technique with the rabbits and lists theme oh trying to achieve the American dream so remember that the setting was in the Great Depression and you know everyone even today has this American dream to own their own home have some property

The GNRA-tetraloop/tetraloop-receptor (GNRA/receptor) motif is the most prevalent co-motif of long-range A-minor interactions [55] found in various non-coding RNAs [24-26].
A motif is a recurring narrative element with symbolic significance. If you spot a symbol, concept, or plot structure that surfaces repeatedly in the text, youre probably dealing with a motif. They must be related to the central idea of the work, and they always end up reinforcing the authors overall message.
An example of a motif is bright light in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, which is used to express the love that Romeo and Juliet have for each other as well as the potential danger of that love.
The phrase so it goes is an example of a motif: a recurring story element with symbolic significance. Motifs direct readers attention to larger themes and engage them on an intuitive level. They are great tools for creating depth in your writing.
A recurring motif in the novel is George and Lennies dream of owning their own farm.
The dream farm is another location; it does not exist in reality but is very real in the minds of Lennie and, eventually, George. It becomes a symbol for their relationship, and the retelling of the dream has become a ritual. This is the place where George and Lennie will have self-respect and independence.
Hands exist as an underlying symbol in Steinbecks novel Of Mice and Men. Maybe the most powerful picture of hands accompanies connection to Curley. Curleys hands have double significance. One hand, the one without the glove, is intended to symbolize strength.
Examples of Motif in Narrative Writing A repeated reference or visual of shattered glass (something in life is about to break) Recurring dishonest characters (to cue up the discovery of an unfaithful spouse) A character who constantly misplaces things (as the loss of someone or something docHub is on the horizon)
