AP style tip: Use periods and no space when an individual uses initials instead of a first name: H.L. Mencken.
A persons initials are a kind of abbreviation, and these are usually followed by full stops: John D. Rockefeller, C. Aubrey Smith, O. J. Simpson.
Initials are the capital letters that begin each word of a name. For example, if your full name is Michael Dennis Stocks, your initials are M.D.S.
By the etiquette protocol, suffixes are omitted when creating a standard monogram.
When writing a name initials are always capitalized and followed by a period. Note that when writing both initials you do not include a space between, so J.S. , NOT J. S.
Initials require no periods when someone has come to be known by initials alone (JFK, LBJ, etc.). Mary Jane is MJ. However, formal manuscripts probably need the periods.
Traditional Monogram For an individual, the order of initials is the first name, last name, and middle name. The last name initial (center) is larger than those on either side.
A persons initials are a kind of abbreviation, and these are usually followed by full stops: John D. Rockefeller, C. Aubrey Smith, O. J. Simpson.
