Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Im going to show you how to create a custom, intertwined, monogram logo centered on a simple, but powerful background. If the middle initial of the monogram is larger than the other two, the middle initial is the surname or last name. The first initial is the first name and the last initial is the middle name. However, if all the initials are the same size, the order of the initials represents the first, middle and last name. I provided a link to a website that explains the general rules pertaining to monograms. The link is located in the video description. Create a new document by pressing Ctrl + N on Windows or Cmd + N on a Mac. Make the Width: 1200 pixels, the Height: 900 pixels and the Resolution: 300 pixels per inch. Make the Color Mode: RGB at 8 bits per channel. Then click OK. Lets begin by making the background first. Open your Gradient Tool and make sure the Linear gradient icon is highlighted. To define a variable in Photoshop, target the layer and select Image Variables Define. In the Variables dialog box, choose the desired layer, select the variable type and enter names for the variables.
Select the Brush Tool and with the layer mask selected (White Thumbnail Icon) start painting over areas of the type in Black. This will hide the pixels from the text to reveal the pixels from the background. In other words, youre hiding or masking these pixels.
How To Place Text Behind An Object Step 1: Open your image. Step 2: Add your text. Step 3: Duplicate the Background layer. Step 4: Drag the copy above the Type layer. Step 5: Choose the Quick Selection Tool. Step 6: Select the area that will hide the text. Step 7: Refine the selection with Select and Mask.
Just merge your layers and youre good to go. Set the opacity low for the layer youd like to be behind your object. Manually mask the overlapping areas where youd like to move your image behind. Select the foreground layer (i.e. the object/image to be in front) and then duplicate the mask(s).
If you cant edit text in Photoshop, thats most likely because your layer is locked. To unlock the layer, select it in the Layers panel and click the lock icon. You can then edit the text within that layer.
Make a monogram Create an outline. Meng used the Type (T) tool to add initials using the Bely Display font synced from docHub Fonts. Anchor your design. Guide the slope. Decorate the type. Set the path. Unite the elements. Form a connection. Refine the endpoint.

With a two or three-letter monogram, you can play with the idea of a character feature. Choose color wisely. Experiment with shape and layout.
To edit text on a type layer, select the type layer in the Layers panel and select the Horizontal or Vertical Type tool in the Tools panel. Make a change to any of the settings in the options bar, such as font or text color. When youre finished editing, click the check mark in the options bar.
Create a custom font style on the fly Type your text. Press T, or select the Horizontal Type tool in the Tools panel. Find a variable font and use it as a starting point.
