Place a guide Choose View New Guide. In the dialog box, select Horizontal or Vertical orientation, enter a position, and click OK. Drag from the horizontal ruler to create a horizontal guide. Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), and drag from the vertical ruler to create a horizontal guide.
Do one of the following to create a guide: In the View Guides New Guide submenu, select Horizontal or Vertical orientation in the dialog box, enter a position and color, and click OK. Drag from the horizontal ruler to create a horizontal guide.
Create a Guide: Hover your cursor over either the left or top Ruler. Click on the Ruler and drag it as if you were trying to move it onto your document. You will see a thin line appear as you drag from the Ruler and this is your Guide. Use the Ruler to help you place the Guide in your desired location.
Turn your Smart Guides on By default, Smart Guides are on. To make sure they are on, choose View Show Smart Guides. For this tutorial, you will also need your rulers visible. Choose View Rulers to ensure that rulers are on.
