EIN Reference Number 115 (Date of Death shows for Responsible Party): Reference number 115 is when the system runs a date of death inquiry on the Responsible Party and it comes back showing that party as deceased. Solution: Contact the IRS if the Responsible Party is not deceased.
One of the most common reasons you might find that you cant get EIN online is that your application comes back with a Reference 101 error. This often occurs because you have a conflict with your name on the application. Entity names must be unique.
EIN Reference Number 114 (max EINs per day): Reference number 114 means that the Responsible Party has already been granted an EIN for the day. An IRS Responsible Party can only be assigned one EIN per day. Solution: Wait 24 hours and then apply again online.
Reference number 105 means that youve made too many attempts online to obtain the EIN (using the same SSN, ITIN, or EIN), each leading to an error reference/code. Solution: Wait 24 hours and try the EIN Online Application again. If you still receive an error message, then we recommend filing Form SS-4 by mail or fax.
Q. Do all the EINs obtained on the Internet start with 20, 26, 27, 45, 46, 47, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, or 88? A. Yes. The unique prefixes (20, 26, 27, 45, 46, 47, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, or 88) identify the EIN as a number issued via the internet.
The EIN Reference Number 101 simply means that theyve found an existing business entity with a name thats the same as, or too similar to, your LLC name. This can happen because while the state you registered your LLC in doesnt have a business with a similar name to yours, there is another one in another state.
