Its standard to use a comma between the city and state if youre spelling out the state, but not when youre using the two-letter postal abbreviation (so its San Francisco, California but San Francisco CA).
When applying for work in a different city, you can either include your current address alongside your relocation address or simply state your relocation address. When relocating, the same rules apply for including a home address on your resume: Using a city and state is usually preferred to a complete street address.
Commas. Theres fierce debate between those who advocate using serial, or Oxford, commas (putting a comma before the final and in a series) and those who dont. The best practice for resumes is to use serial commas, as they can really make your career documents easier to understand.
Heres our take: In virtually all cases, it is advised to at least give your current city, state, and zip code. Providing these details shouldnt hurt your chances as long as you frame it correctly, and can give your resume a valuable personal touch in a time of remote work and digital job applications.
Exact dates are not necessary. This is typically right-justified beside your job title or company name, though it can also be placed under your job title. If you are still currently working for your most recent job, rather than an end date, you would simply put the word present.
Instead of using Worked With, job seekers can use synonyms like Collaborated, Cooperated, or Teamed Up to highlight their ability to work effectively with others. These alternatives convey a sense of teamwork, communication, and the ability to contribute to a collective effort.
My advice: avoid the semicolon, even if you know how to use it. Periods: Believe it or not, the simple period often gets misused on resumes. Of course, periods are good to put at the end of complete sentences.
Include only your street address, city, state abbreviation, and zip code. The longer you format your address, the more likely it will spill onto a second line. So abbreviate whenever you can (e.g., North as N., Road as Rd., and Massachusetts as MA).
