The real difference between DITA and DocBook-like XML applications is DITAs focus on modularity, reuse, and interoperation, which results in a very different architecture as compared to more traditional XML applications for published documents.
To link to another topic or external site inline, you use the xref element.
HTML links are hyperlinks. You can click on a link and jump to another document. When you move the mouse over a link, the mouse arrow will turn into a little hand. Note: A link does not have to be text. A link can be an image or any other HTML element!
DITA allows you to reuse content by referencing it in another topic. DITA provides several mechanisms for including content by reference ( conref , conkeyref , coderef ). A conref (content reference) creates a direct reference to a specific element of another topic.
Take the name youve chosen, and insert it into an opening HTML anchor link tag. Place that complete opening tag from above before the text or object you want to link to, and add a closing tag after. Create the hyperlink thatll take you to that text or object.
To add an anchor link in HTML, youll follow two steps: Assign the ID attribute with the tag. We can attach an ID to a header with the a tag in a similar process we use for creating hyperlinks. Add the ID attribute to an HTML Link. To create the anchor link, youll use the href attribute.
A variable is any characteristic, number, or quantity that can be measured or counted. A variable may also be called a data item. Age, sex, business income and expenses, country of birth, capital expenditure, class grades, eye colour and vehicle type are examples of variables.
A variable is a quantity that may change within the context of a mathematical problem or experiment. Typically, we use a single letter to represent a variable. The letters x, y, and z are common generic symbols used for variables.
There are three different types of hyperlinks on the web, absolute, relative, and inline links.
DITA doesnt have an actual variables element, but you can use keyref to accomplish the same thing. A variable is a symbol that represents something else. You might use the variable productname so that if youre product name switches, you dont have to update all instances of the product name in your documentation.
